Strawberry Rhubarb Coffee Cake

This is an old family recipe. As a child, I remember how quickly this dessert would disappear at family functions. You can

1 cup packed brown sugar
1 cup granulated Sugar; divided
2/3 cup vegetable oil 1 egg, beaten
1 cup buttermilk
1 tsp. vanilla extract
2 1/2 cups all-purpose flour
1 tsp. soda
1 tsp. salt
1 cup fresh chopped strawberries
1 cup fresh chopped rhubarb
1/2 cup chopped walnuts
1/4 cup butter or margarine

Preheat oven to 325 degrees.
Grease 9x13 inch cake pan.
Combine brown sugar, granulated sugar(1/2 cup), vegetable oil, egg, vanilla extract and buttermilk.
Mix ingredients thoroughly. Stir together flour, soda, and salt and add to mixture.
Stir until well blended.
Add rhubarb, strawberries, and walnuts; pour into cake pan.
Melt butter and spoon over top of cake. Sprinkle the remaining 1/2 cup sugar over cake as well.
Bake 35-40 minutes.
Serve warm or cold. Serve with whipped cream or vanilla ice cream if desired.
