Summer Time Is Strawberry Slushie Time!
Strawberries everywhere...even though the June harvest is over, there are nowadays so many everbearing strawberries that you can eat fresh berries at least until end of September.
In case you ran out of ideas what to do with them, here are two great recipes for healthy and refreshing strawberry drinks.
I especially love the pure strawberry slushie: just crushed ice and my favorite fruits. I don't even add sugar to this drink, but the rest of my family insists on it.
Therefore I opted for a healthier alternative with maple syrup and so far they haven't complained :-)
This is the drink from the image above. If you don't like the foamy appearance you have to put it into the fridge and let it settle for at least 30 minutes.
Ingredients for 2 portions
Directions
Process all the ingredients except the maple syrup in a blender until the ice has turned to slush.
Usually I taste it first and depending on the kind of strawberries you use, it may already be sweet enough. As I said before, I never use sugar, but my family insists on it.
Therefore I take off one glass for me and then add the maple syrup and blend again. Start with very little syrup, you can always add more if it's not yet sweet enough.
Ingredients
Serves 2
Directions
Remove the skin from pineapple and cube it.
Process the pineapple, grapes and berries in a blender. If the consistency is too thick for your liking, add some water.
Add sugar if necessary.
Even though the recipe calls for fresh strawberries, all drinks are ideal for using frozen ones. As you probably know, they become quite mushy when thawed and in a drink you almost want notice the difference.
